French, Bronze Pendant of Fontaine Fable "Two Pigeons" by Engraver Jean Vernon (1897-1975)

Sorry, this item has sold.

This French medal of bronze by engraver Jean Vernon is circa 1930s-1940s and measures 1.5", not including the bale. The piece is not lightweight and has a heft to it. The edge of the pendant is marked "Bronze."

Please note wear to the face and reverse of the pendant. Please use the zoom function and examine the photos carefully. Please let me know if you would like more photographs as I'll be happy to oblige.

The translation of "Deux pigeons s'aimaient d'amour tendre" is "Two pigeons loved each other with tender love." Jean de la Fontaine, French fabulist, wrote The Two Pigeons, and some say it is an allegory of homosexual love.

Jean Vernon was the son of engraver Frédéric-Charles-Victor de Vernon.
